“Award for excellence presented”

Muscat-Six organisations and an entrepreneur have been recognized in the Oman Awards for Excellence for the year 2003. The prestigious awards were announced at a gala dinner ceremony at Al Bustan Palace Hotel yesterday.

A spectacular audiovisual presentation and its theme "Get ready to cross the frontiers of excellence" was the highlight of the evening with a dummy rocket actually taking off from the stage.

The seven awards, Flame of Excellence; Exporter of the Year; Tourism Promoter of the Year; Investment Project of the Year; Public Service Initiative; People Development Award; and the Emerging Entrepreneur Award are constituted by the Omani private sector to recognize and individuals for their enthusiastic participation in the nation-building process. Mark Tours won the Tourism Award for the year. The finalists were: Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Kindy Trading LLC (Mark Tours); Al Bustan Palace Hotel and Muscat Diving &Adventure Center.

BEST OF THE BEST
Glory and inspiration. That was what the 2003 edition of the Oman Awards for Excellence was all about. Glory for the winners in the seven categories and inspiration for the 600 guests, who had gathered at the Majan Ball Room at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel for the Award Ceremony on May 9.
That night, seven winners were to have collected the coveted flame shaped trophies, but only five came up. That was because one man - Abdul Karim Hassan Sulaiman - went on to the stage thrice. (…)
The cheers were no less enthusiastic for the four other winners. The first award to be announced that night, the Investment Project of the Year, was won by AES Barka Power Co.
BankMuscat bagged the newly introduced People Development Award. " Investment in people has always been our priority because we believe our staff are our best assets", declared Abdulrazak Ali Issa, CEO, trophy in hand. Soon, it was the turn of Mark Tours, general Manager, M K K Mohamed, to collect the Tourism Promoter of the Year Award. And the picture of this year's famous five was complete when Mohammed Ghassani, director, Knowledge Oasis Muscat, collected the Public Service Initiative of the Year award.
